In the already passed 2020, I’ve tipped a toe into the beauty realm with the Beauty Smoothie series. I was ecstatic of how well-received it was. Cosmetics and skin care are a big part of my life and daily routine, and including them in the blog was something I wanted for a long time. Therefore, the Beauty Smoothie will stay as a permanent addition to my writing menu.
With all that out of the way, let’s check something new. In this week’s installment, I will review Lumene’s CC Cream.
Lumene is a brand I got familiar with during my residence in Denmark. As a Scandinavian brand, it is well-known in other countries from the region. It is widely used and liked. Yet, I have rarely seen it in stores. So, even though I was aware of the brand and the quality of their products, I have never tested them for myself.
During the summer of 2020, I was looking for a lightweight and well-lasting base for my face. I was going through the stores and was mainly interested in BB or CC creams.
Over winter Mac’s Face and Body pretty much did it for me, but it had a tendency of looking oily. So, I was looking for something new to add to my collection.
Suddenly, in one of the stores I came across a Lumene counter full of products I have never seen before. They all looked promising to me. So, I caved in very fast.
As we already mentioned, Lumene is a Scandinavian cosmetics and skin-care brand. But besides this, I did not know quite much about them. Therefore, as a cautious consumer, I decided to learn more about it.
Lumene is a Finnish cosmetics company based in Kauklahti, Espoo. Their products are both developed and manufactured in Finland (which may be interesting for all you business geeks). Lumene is named after lake Lummene and aims to translate the natural Scandinavian beauty into their products. As stated by the company:
“We take our inspiration from the Nordic approach to well-being and beauty: a region where a unique blend of resilience, mindfulness and harmony with nature is deeply rooted in everyday life. Despite the harsh climates of the northern longitudes, Nordic women are fresh-faced, radiant and healthy-looking.”
Lumene’s products are not only inspired by nature but are based on natural ingredients. They are up to 100% naturally derived, vegan and cruelty-free.
Most of the products follow the company’s values and are meant to improve the state of the skin and enhance natural beauty.
I was hooked by the idea behind it, so I picked up Lumene’s CC cream in ultra-light.
Lumene Color Correcting Cream

Lumene’s CC cream has a very interesting texture. The product is very liquid and watery. In the same time, when blending into the skin, one can notice a distinct oiliness and slip to it. This scared me at my first use, as I thought it will make my face shiny and that the product will slip around during the day. Let’s not even mention that I did not expect an impressive lasting power.
The product does not offer a wide variety of shades, especially when it comes to darker tones. However, it blends with the skin so seamlessly, that you may not need your exact shade anyway.
I applied it and did my makeup as usual… but I was not impressed. I noticed it kind of clinging to some of my pores. Still, after wearing it once, I had already forgotten about it.
A few days later, I saw the tube and decided to try it out again. WOW! What a difference it made in my skin!
Due to its texture, the CC cream was very easy to apply and spread on the skin. I tried blending it with my hands, with a brush and with sponge. All manners gave me almost the same result, but I did find that when spread with a sponge it tends to take less time and look more hydrated on the skin.
With the first application, the product evens the skin and leaves it natural and with a skin-like texture. It looks like your skin, but 20 times better! I tend to go with two layers, so it gets a medium coverage, but it keeps its natural look.
The finish is satin, which I like. However, for longevity, I like to powder it well with translucent powder. What surprised me is that long hours after application it still looks great on the skin. It gets increasingly more and more shiny with the time. However, it does not look like oily skin, but as if you are glowing.
The CC cream did not dry my skin. In contrast, it kept it well-hydrated and protected.
The formula includes an SPF of 20. Still, I would not rely purely on the CC cream as my sun protection and apply a protective cream beforehand. However, I am still happy that it is included.
All in all, Lumene’s Color Correcting Cream has become a staple in my everyday routine. I’ve used it for half a year now.
I stayed pleasantly surprised by both the finish and the lasting power of the product. Moreover, I like how easy it is to apply.
I would recommend it to both people with dry and oily skin if they are interested in a lightweight product with a satin finish and luminosity through the day.
This product gave me a good impression of the brand and now I am looking forward to trying more by Lumene soon! Let me know if you have any recommendations in the comments below.
